ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Thursday, February 15, 2024, at approximately 4:30 PM, a man was arrested in Ishpeming for kidnapping an 18 month old girl.
The Ishpeming Police Department, with the assistance of Michigan State Police and Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team received information that 43-year-old Jesse James Paris, a former Negaunee resident, was in hiding. Law enforcement blocked off the 100 block of N. Main St, in Ishpeming. After a short time, Paris exited the apartment building and surrendered without issue.
The Police had been searching for Paris, the suspect in a kidnapping incident under investigation, for months. An 18 month old female child was located in the apartment safe and unharmed. The relationship between Paris and the child is unknown at this time. The child was transferred to the custody of an employee of the Department of Health and Human Services of Marquette County.
Mr. Paris was charged with Kidnapping Child Enticement which is a felony and carries a possible life sentence. Paris was also an Ascender from Parole and had three separate warrants for his arrest. The first warrant was for Controlled Substance – Delivery/Manufacture of Methamphetamine, the second warrant was for Controlled Substance – Possession of Methamphetamine and the third was a bench warrant out of the Circuit Court of Marquette County for Failure to Appear.
