UP Wellness Task Force encourages involvement from the community

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Upper Peninsula Wellness Task Force held its quarterly meeting Thursday at Marquette-Alger RESA.

The goal of the task force is to work on projects that will help address mental health and wellness in teens and children around the UP. A number of projects have come to life with the help of the task force, such as the Northern Lights Child Advocacy Center and a new Day Treatment Program launching a pilot session in March.

Leaders at the task force say they’re always open to more involvement from the community, and anyone is welcome to join.

“The thing that I’ve loved the last year and a half that I’ve been involved with the task force is that there are new people joining every time we get together,” said Elise Bur, Director of the Center for Rural Health at Northern Michigan University. “The more people that can be cohesive about the developments in the Upper Peninsula, the better.”

The UP Wellness Task Force meets once every three months, but the next meeting date has not yet been set. The group typically meets at the Marquette-Alger RESA building at 321 E Ohio St. in Marquette.

For more information on how you can join, contact Marquette-Alger RESA at 906-226-5100 or click here.
