MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Students at Northern Michigan University are back from the holiday break this week, braving the sudden cold. Unlike many other schools in the area, NMU Wildcats did not get the day off on Tuesday and the winter weather had continued to Wednesday.
Students recommend to any underclassmen experiencing the U-Ps winter for the first time to make sure their jackets, gloves, and hats are thick enough to block the wind. The dangers of low body temperature can be severe in below-freezing weather. Students and Faculty said the cold weather is just the price we pay for living in paradise.
“The windchill is worse cause the temperature was maybe zero yesterday with wind chill it felt like negative 23 and that was like the worst part so,” commented NMU Nursing Student Elizabeth Gillard.
“I’m kinda used to it but even yesterday was like wow,” commented NMU Junior Chris Adams.
“Well as I said to my students yesterday I said I thought I was becoming a real yooper handling the cold this year and then last weekend came and I thought well I need to go to Australia,” commented NMU Professor Lynn Domina.
Next week is predicted to see warmer temperatures but with the suprise weather in the UP, it’s always good to be prepared.
