IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich (WZMQ) – The Uren-Cooper-Johnson Post 50 on River Avenue is poised to host a mouthwatering New Year’s Eve event, preparing to welcome 2024 with a delectable dinner featuring hot pasta and exciting raffle prizes. The annual tradition, known for drawing a sizable crowd, invites the public to partake in the upcoming feast.

Commander Jim Richards, leading the charge at Post 50, eagerly shares details about the event, emphasizing the enticing raffle prizes awaiting fortunate winners. “Five dollar tickets offer you a chance to win a thousand dollars, seven-hundred and fifty, or two-fifty, and that includes a complete spaghetti dinner. Tickets will be available at the door, and we still have plenty. We anticipate serving between two and two-hundred-and-fifty people,” Commander Richards elaborated.

The New Year’s Eve dinner, a pivotal fundraiser for the Legion, is set to unfold from six to eight central on Sunday. Commander Richards expresses gratitude for the dedicated crew behind the event and extends a warm invitation to newcomers to join the Legion’s ranks. “We have a very good crew this year, thankfully. If you want to become a member, which we would genuinely appreciate, simply stop by, grab an application, fill it out, we’ll get it to our adjutant, and we’ll get you signed up.”

With approximately 275 members, the Legion’s community engagement extends beyond New Year’s Eve. Commander Richards mentions other events, such as the upcoming Fourth of July hot dog and hamburger feed, and a party hosted by the Dickinson County veterans unit at Lake Antoine. Looking ahead, he shares, “The next big fundraiser is going to be 4th of July.”

He also underscores the significance of Legion membership, stating, “You need to be with a member or be a member to hang out at the Legion. Membership is $40. For someone renewing, if they renew after a year, it’s $45, but the dues are going up at the beginning of July.” As the Legion eagerly anticipates ringing in the New Year, they look forward to fostering community connections through future gatherings and events.

The Legion Post is located at 916 River Ave.
