MARQUETTE, Mi. (WZMQ) – Children with sensitivities to lights, noise, or crowds will have the chance to meet with Santa this year thanks to Marquette-Alger RESA.
The school district is offering a sensory friendly Santa visit to families this year. Parents can sign up online for a free private session with St Nick up to 18 year old children.
According to the school district, providing a more controlled environment allows children with special needs to still experience holiday traditions.
“If your kid doesn’t want to touch Santa, they do not have to touch Santa, they can sit on the floor next to him, sit on his lap, sit in a chair next to him, it is really custom made to fit every child needs,” said Andy Haavisto the Chairperson of the Special Education Parent Advisory Committee.
The sensory friendly Santa meet and greet will be on Wednesday Dec. 20th from 4:30pm to 8:00pm Thursday Dec. 21st from 10am to 5pm.
Visits are by appointment only and can be made by scanning the QR code on the flyer above or visiting here.
