ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Administrators of Escanaba’s Municipal Marina are considering a new development to bring in more business.
On Tuesday, the Harbor Advisory Committee held a meeting to gauge the public’s interest in establishing a restaurant and bar at the marina. Harbormaster Shayne Sanville says while there are people on both sides, the majority are in favor of the idea.
According to Sanville, the goal would be to bring in more boat traffic and to boost local business.
“Anything to get more boaters this far north would be a good thing for the harbor,” Sanville said. “We think it would bring more people all the way down Main Street and draw more people to the downtown area. Thinking about the future of the harbor—keeping it going and updates to the facilities—anything that could bring in more revenue is worth looking at.”
The Harbor Advisory Committee plans to bring the proposal before city officials. If they determine a restaurant and bar would be feasible, the committee will hold more public meetings and look into potential developers.
