MARQUETTE Mich. (WZMQ) – Superior Alliance for Independent Living (SAIL) is hosting their 3rd Annual Battle of the Boards, but this time in a new location.
For the first year, Battle of the Boards is being held at Harbor Fest. Players are encouraged to explore the other activities at the festival and don’t have to worry about missing their game, because event host can now contact players.
“This year partnering with Harbor Fest is great,” says Timothy Schumann, Health and Wellness Program Manager at SAIL. “People can walk around in between their turns, and when it’s time for their team to come play again, we will call or text to let them know to come. And they can just enjoy their entire day.”
Funds raised in this event go towards SAIL’s one in five campaign, that evenly funds five programs. All programs supported are aimed to help individuals who may need assistance, which include: SPAR, U.P. Vets Served, Sled Hockey U.P., Assistive Technology, and Home Safety.
“The cornhole tournament is gonna be a lot of fun, the money raised is gonna go to a good cause,” says Schumann. “Hopefully it’ll be more fun than competitive, but you know competitive as well, because there are cash prizes.”
The tournament was $40 to enter, and ended up bringing in 17 teams. The first place team will receive a $200 prize, second place will receive $100, and the team with the best sportsmanship will receive $50.
Battle of the Boards will begin at noon in Lower Harbor Park, there is no set end time and the battle will continue until all teams have finished the bracket.
SAIL is also hosting Toss for a Cause, the bag toss is $3 to play, but SAIL guarantees a prize along with a thank you for donating post on SAIL social media. Toss for a Cause will be held at 4p.m. Friday, August 25th at Lower Harbor Park. All proceeds from the event will go towards an accessible bathroom in Lower Harbor Park.
