ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – At the U.P. State Fair on Thursday, the U.P. Veteran of the Year Committee celebrated this year’s honoree.
The title went to James A. Provost of Marquette. Provost served as a Marine during the Vietnam War.
Provost has a long record of working to help fellow veterans. He has worked on the Marquette County Veterans Affairs Committee for nine years, where he has served in a variety of ways—including finding housing for homeless veterans.
2022 U.P. Veteran of the Year Tracey Tippett, who also served in the Marines, says it is a privilege to pass the title to Provost.
“It’s something you’re going to carry with you for the rest of your life, but to pass it on to another fellow Marine, it’s just a great honor for that to happen,” Tippett said. “Jim is an outstanding veteran and so well-deserving of this award, just like all veterans.”
Provost received a number of other honors, including a golden ticket for September’s U.P. Honor Flight.
The U.P. Veteran of the Year Committee also presented the first-ever Volunteer Service Award to civilian Dennis Larson for his service to veterans with the Sons of the American Legion.
