NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – For the first time ever Negaunee baseball has brought home a Little League state championship.
The programs 14u team beat Muskegon Roosevelt Park 8-4 in the state championship game.Its the first time in Negaunee little leagues over 50 year history a team has accomplished the feat.
Negaunee dominated throughout the entire tournament outscoring opponents 57-8. The team was welcomed back to town tonight with a full police escort and greeted by a large crowd of fans.
“I haven’t really taken it in yet, [The community] is saying this is crazy, this is history,” remarked a very excited Evan D’angelo, a player for the Negaunee squad who rotates between Pitching and playing third base.
Negaunee will move on to represent Michigan in the regional little league tournament. They will face off against Kentucky on August 2nd.
