ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Thursday, Delta County businesses and organizations hit the golf course today to help students pursue a college education.
Bay College hosted its 32nd annual Swing for Scholarships Golf Outing at the Escanaba Country Club. 160 golfers joined this year’s fundraiser, and twenty local businesses supported the event as major sponsors.
According to Bay Bank CEO Michael Nardi–who is one of three golfers who has participated for all 32 years–events like Swing for Scholarships help Bay College enrich the community by making degrees and certifications more accessible.
“It’s really what it’s all about, when our local community gives back to such a major cause like this,” said Nardi. “It really affords people locally who can get a higher education at an affordable cost. Everyone feels a very big part of that.”
Since its inaugural outing, Swing for Scholarships has raised approximately half a million dollars in scholarships for 388 students.
The event was sponsored by the Bay College Foundation, the Alumni Association, and Norse Athletics.
