ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Tuesday, July 11th, 2023, at around 6:25 PM, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team along with UPHS EMS responded to a juvenile that fell around 40 ft. while rock climbing.
The incident occurred on a high rock face between Malton Road and New York St. in the City of Ishpeming.
Two juveniles were riding their bikes along a section of RAMBA’s Epic Bike Trail when they decided to attempt to scale the rock face. The victim climbed to a rock outcropping about 40ft. high before losing his grip and falling. The victims friend had a cell phone with him and was able to call 911 to report the incident.
The victim received minor injuries during the fall. Search and rescue members carried the boy to an ATV rescue sled and were able to drive him out to an awaiting ambulance.
He was transported by UPHS EMS to the hospital in Marquette for treatment of his injuries. Marquette County Search and Rescue would like to remind everyone to never recreate outdoors alone and always carry a cell phone to be able to call or text for help if needed.
