MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The DNR is reminding people to keep some distance from wildlife after a recent incident involving a bear in Chippewa County.
The DNR says a homeowner was feeding a bear in their backyard. When a conservation officer investigated the home, the bear charged at him multiple times.
While no one was hurt, the DNR says feeding animals like bears isn’t only dangerous for humans, but for the animal as well.
“The best thing you can do is to take food sources away from them and like all wildlife observe them from a safe distance and enjoy them,” said John Pepin, the Deputy Public Information Officer for the DNR.
Oftentimes when a bear loses its fear of people the DNR is left with no choice but to euthanize.
