NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Negaunee’s 2023 Pioneer Days Celebration kicked off Friday night with the first round of the alumni softball tournament, with the newly graduated Class of 2023 facing off against the Negaunee faculty.
The Little Miss Pioneer Princess Pageant, which featured ten contestants, also took place Friday night to start the celebration. New this year was the Jr. Miss Pioneer Pageant, which had three contestants.
Hosted by the Negaunee Irontown Association, Pioneer Days is over a week long celebration of the town for alumni and residents. Along with several events that are geared more toward adults and alumni, there are also plenty of activities for children, like the Negaunee Elk’s Kids Bike Parade.
“You can bring the kids and they will ride their bikes up to the ice arena,” said Missey Wickstrom, coordinator for the Pioneer Princess Pageant. “At the ice arena there are amazing prizes, I was looking online, there’s even a Nintendo Switch, four bikes available, and so they have a great opportunity to go to the ice arena and have some hot dogs and ice cream, sponsored by the Elks, and win some amazing prizes.”
The celebration ends Saturday, June 8, with a parade, Music in the Park, and a fireworks display over Teal Lake.
