Kingsford Public Safety searches for suspect of fleeing and eluding the police

Kingsford, Mich. (WZMQ) – Last night, around 9:30 pm central time, a police chase occurred through Iron Mountain City park. At least two police vehicles were on the chase after a small two-stroke dirt bike going the wrong way up the one-way street. The chase lasted approximately 11 minutes, and the suspect tore through Iron Mountain’s City Park, heading the wrong way up the one-way street path.

The call was responded to by Kingsford Public Safety.  According to Kingsford Public Safety, officers Brouillette and Maki were in pursuit on the chase, and the suspect has not yet been apprehended. The situation is still under investigation, and Iron Mountain State Police have not confirmed any involvement in the chase.

Officer Richard Wright of Kingsford Public Safety gave details on the suspects in the case.

“One of our Sergeants was involved in a pursuit of originally two motorcycles that split up, and he pursued what’s believed to be a white Honda CR 250 two-stroke dirt bike. Originally, he was attempting to stop two motorcycles, dirt bikes in the city of Kingsford for not having lights, tail lights or headlights on them after dark. When he activated the emergency lights, the two subjects looked at each other and sped off. And they split directions. Our officer pursued the white Honda 250 dirt bike,” commented Officer Wright. He added that officers are currently unsure if other crimes are involved, stating that in these kinds of situations sometimes the suspect already has a warrant out for a crime, or potentially doesn’t possess a driver’s license.

The suspect could face charges if apprehended. “Obviously, flee and elude from the police would be a big one we’re looking currently,” Officer Wright stated of the nature of potential charges the suspect could face. The officer is unsure if drugs or alcohol were involved at this point in time in the investigation.

“The motorcycle that was not pursued, we don’t have a description on the bike, that would be a better question for the pursuing officer, but we do know he was wearing a red helmet, and a white T-shirt,” stated Officer Wright.

“The other motorcycle, the one we did pursue, that our officer pursued, it was believed to be a two-stroke white Honda CR 250, and that individual is wearing a black helmet, black pants, an olive green shirt, and he had a small black and tan backpack on his back,” he added.

“Originally, that pursuit did initiate in the city of Kingsford, and it ended at Bigfoot Liquors in Spread Eagle, Wisconsin, the motorcycle ended up going down a trail where our vehicle could no longer pursue, so they terminated the pursuit there. I know Florence County was assisting and attempting to follow up and locate that motorcycle for us. We need to locate a suspect and talk to them, find out why they didn’t want to stop, and go from there,” informed Officer Wright.

Kingsford Public Safety would appreciate any information that the public could contribute to the success of this investigation.

“If anybody knows somebody that drives a motorcycle with that description, or knows somebody that was out for a ride last night with a vehicle of that description, if they could contact Kingsford Public Safety at 774-2525, that would be appreciated,” remarked Officer Wright.
