NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – This May, the snowstorm the past two days has already broken historic records. Snow levels in May of 1990 reached around 23”, and this year, levels have surpassed even 40″ in some northern parts of Negaunee.
“There is significant variation in the snow amounts on the ground from near the lakeshore where there’s just a little bit you come up here in the highlands there are over 2 feet of snow so It will go pretty quickly in the low-lying areas and around Marquette I would think by Thursday of this week most of the snow will be gone,” commented Meteorologist Matt Zika.
The National Weather Service told WZMQ that with the density of the snow that is falling, flooding and massive runoffs could pose even bigger issues for residents of Marquette and in the Western portions of the U.P.
