GWINN, Mich. (WZMQ) – The VFW in Gwinn is looking forward to some remodels and updates this summer.

Tonight, at The UP North Lodge, The Gwinn Post held a fundraiser for the renovations needed in the building. Quartermaster of Post 5670 Brian Parsons says the funds are needed to make updates to the bathrooms to make them ADA compliant as well for as roof maintenance. At tonight’s fundraiser, the post was packed with people there to support The VFW.

“We do a lot with the community so the community is doing this to help us raise more money for our building fund so we can keep updating and bring our post into the 21st century.” Parsons says, “We have roof problems, plumbing problems and we’re just working through it.”

Tonight’s fundraiser was a raffle, donated items from 400 gallons of propane to a glider couch, were given away as a part of the fundraiser. Adjutant with Post 5670, Alan Cook, says the Gwunn community is always there and redy to support The VFW.

“It really warms my heart,” Cook says, “you can tell that this Gwinn community loves their veterans and they wanna do right by the veterans and it’s wonderful to see them here tonight, it’s so happy.”

Starting tomorrow, and for the next three Wednesdays, The Gwinn VFW will be hosting Work Wednesdays. Starting at 9am until 4pm The VFW is looking for volunteers to assist with painting and updating the interior of the post.

Cook says any time you can donate is a help to their progress, volunteers are welcome to show up to help out for any amount of time on Work Wednesdays. To contact a VFW staff member, you can call 906-346-5670, or visit vfw5670.org
