ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The City of Escanaba began hearings Monday morning to determine its annual budget.
The council met with city administrators to review the proposed budget for 2023 – 2024.
City Manager Jim McNeil says the general fund has been stressed over the past year. The budget being proposed would balance that fund, but changes may be made by the City Council.
Administrators have also been working to allocate sufficient funding for utility and road work projects planned for the coming years.
“I’m hoping that the budget gets mostly adopted as it is,” said McNeil. “I think it’s been a lot of hard work. Definitely a big group effort goes into this, and I think it’s one of the better budgets that we’ve had in a while.”
A second budget hearing session will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4 at City Hall. The public is welcome to attend.
If more time is needed to work on the budget, an additional session will take place on Wednesday morning.
