NEGAUNEE, Mich, (WZMQ) – The Jeffers Jets traveled down to Negaunee tonight to take on the Munising Mustangs in the MHSAA quarterfinal. It was a first of sorts for both teams. Jeffers has never won the regional championship to advance to tonight’s game and it’s been 69 years since Munising has.
The game featured a sold out crowd with both teams having incredible support.
“It was really awesome, all the boys played really hard,” said one Munising fan.
The game was a sold out crowd, not only did fans of the Jets and Mustangs head to the lakeview memorial gymnasium. but the game caught the attention of locals in Negaunee as well
“Oh we always go to the games, we’re from Negaunee, we’ve been to all the games since this place opened in 1951,” remarked Ray Jutila, a Negaunee resident.
The game was a defensive battle, but the Munising mustangs put up a strong fourth quarter to secure their spot in Lansing at the Breslin Center. The final score was 50-43. The Mustangs will head to East Lansing on Thursday to take on the Cardinal Mooney.
