MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Marquette non-profit organizations will be receiving much needed items thanks to local taxpayers.
The United Way of Marquette County was awarded $702 dollars from the 2021 Michigan tax check off program, which allows county residents to directly contribute funds to local non-profits.
The funds will help to purchase items for the Room at the Inn and the Great Lakes Recovery Center. Following state laws the funds must be used for basic needs including but not limited to food, clothing, and shelter.
“Even in the winter months people are a lot more aware of it and they give back a lot more, we’re kind of hitting the lull where that holiday charity has gone by the wayside and we just need that daily maintenance charity.” Said UWMC program coordinator Holly Michelin.
The United Way of Marquette is running a fundraiser on their facebook page to raise additional funds for the organizations. They hope to double the money they received.
