MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – For the past 25 years, the Lake Superior Community Partnership has helped foster economic and community development all throughout Marquette County. Tonight, the group’s two and a half decades of work were honored at their annual dinner.
“25 years ago the county was facing a crisis with the closure of KI Sawyer, and it’s honestly really inspiring to see an organization like the LSCP which was formed out of that, still going strong 25 years later.” Said LSCP CEO Christopher Germain.
The dinner isn’t only a chance to reflect on the hard work done the past year by the LSCP but also honors local citizens who have put in hard work to better the local community. This year two distinguished service awards were given out at the dinner, an individual award which went to Bill Raymond, the former CEO of Upper Peninsula Michigan Works. And a business award went to HJ Larson and Sons Co., Inc.
When asked about the award winners, Germain said “They’ve both made incredible investments in our community, so it does feel incredible to recognize them for their work.”
Attendees were able to participate in a silent auction and a bucket drawing with prizes donated by local businesses. The dinner brought together over 200 community members, something that NMU’s President Brock Tessman says speaks to the strength of the LSCP.
“This partnership is certainly all about bringing community development, economic development organizations together. Northerns really proud to play a big role. I know we’ve had a long partnership with LSCP and tonight is good evidence of the success of that partnership.” Remarked Dr. Brock Tessman, the President of Northern Michigan University. The Lake Superior Community Partnership sponsors networking and community events throughout the year.
