MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – This Friday, a UP nonprofit is hosting a Harry Potter themed fundraiser. The Marquette and Alger Resolution Service, or MARS, will be hosting a Yule Ball at Barrel and Beam in Marquette Township to raise money for its program fund.
MARS works as a supplement or an alternative to the courts system by helping parties discuss and mediate outside of court. The fundraiser lets MARS continue to offer its services to those in need for free or a reduced cost. Heather Addison, a MARS board member, said “people who solve disputes together, they tend to be much more satisfied with that resolution. We find that those decisions and those answers that people come to are much easier to live with usually.”
Friday’s Yule Ball is a magic evening of food, drinks, music and Harry Potter themed activities, Sarah Derwin, MARS board member, said she is very excited for the celebration “Just knowing that we’ve had generations of harry potter fans, and what better to bring all the witches, wizards, and muggles together for a celebration. We’ll have a Honeydukes stand where folks can buy some different candies generously donated by Donkers, That’s just one of many that will be there.”
The celebration begins at 6 pm at Barrel and Beam on Northwoods Road in Marquette. Tickets are $30 per child under 21, and $40 for adults. You can purchase tickets for the event here.
