MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Graveraet Elementary School students met a sled dog musher and one of her sled dogs-in-training Thursday.
The school is currently reading “Sled Dog School,” by musher and author Terry Lynn Johnson, as part of its One Book, One School initiative.
Johnson and her assistant Adam Lacy spoke with students about sled dog racing and even gave students a chance to see what it’s like to get behind a sled.
“In the book, they reference the sled and some of the gear, so I am just trying to teach them about that, and then be able to show them that live in person, having a sled here so they can come and see it a little closer, and just get a better understanding of the sport,” said Lacy.
After a short presentation, the students lined up to meet the pup and try out the sled and equipment.
