Police

LUCE COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – At approximately 9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8th, troopers from the Sault Ste. Marie Michigan State Police post were dispatched to the scene of a single vehicle snowmobile crash.

The crash occurred near Devil’s Hallow Lake Trail and County Road 371 in Luce County.

Upon investigation of the incident, troopers discovered that a snowmobile driven by 49-year-old Robert Huffmaster of Valparaiso, Indiana, had run off the trail and struck a tree. He was alone on the snowmobile, and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, and the incident remains under investigation.

Troopers were assisted by Luce County EMS and officers from the Michigan DNR.
