MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WZMQ) – At approximately 2:45 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, troopers from the Manistique and Gladstone Posts received a call for a snowmobile crash where a female driver struck a tree on Trail 413 near Camp 7 Road in School Craft County.
Troopers and other personnel responded and began live saving measures on the driver. The driver, 46-year-old Alain Davis of the Charlotte area, was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Davis was traveling with her husband who was on a snowmobile near her when the crash occurred. They were traveling east on Trail 413 when they reached a “Y” intersection. Davis was unable to negotiate the curve, causing her to go off the trail. Davis was unable to get back onto the trail and lost control of the snowmobile.
After hitting several smaller tree stumps sticking out of the snow, Davis was ejected off the snowmobile and struck a tree at a high rate of speed.
Alcohol is not considered to be a factor in this crash.
The Michigan State Police was assisted on the scene by Commercial Motor Vehicle Officers, Manistique Public Safety Officers, Inwood Fire and Rescue, Schoolcraft County Sheriff deputies, and Guardian Flight.
This crash follows another snowmobile accident in Schoolcraft County earlier in the day, where a male driver was traveling too fast for trail conditions and suffered a broken leg. The Michigan State Police encourages safe and prudent use of snowmobiles, and to ride within your limits.
