ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – Ishpeming’s Al Quaal tube slide will remain closed again this year due to insufficient staffing.
The tube slide is owned and operated by the City of Ishpeming. It operates on the hill leading toward Teal Lake in the Al Quaal Recreation Area.
Ishpeming City Manager Craig Cugini said the tube slide requires a minimum of 10 employees to operate. The city only had three qualified applicants.
Despite that, Cugini said residents can still use the tube slide.
“The tubing hill is available, people can sled on it anytime they want, they just have to walk themselves back up the hill,” he said. “We do not have tubes for rent when we are not open. So, you can bring your own sled, toboggan anything you want.”
Cugini cautions residents to sled at their own risk, as the hill is not staffed. He also asked residents using the hill to leave it in good condition for everyone to use.
