MARQUETTE, Mich (WZMQ) – Starting your college career can be a stressful time, from applications to move-in day. Picking the right school can be a life-changing decision. Since 2018, two Michigan tech Alumni have been using their analytics company, “Sightline”, to help universities increase enrollment. Erin Thompson, who spent most of her career in the educational field, has applied her commitment to the students. “I was looking for a different opportunity”, said Thompson. “We saw this big opportunity to transfer our technology to the student side of it”.
Weighing out your options based on GPA scores, tuition costs, and even class size can get overwhelming. “College Shopper” compares up to 25 colleges and gives the student options of schools on what they call a “Personalized College Shopper Report”.
“We use the data that they have in their databases. We run them through our models to increase net revenue retention and enrollment outcomes for their institutions”, said Thompson. Thompson notes that tuition costs have increased by around 180% in the last 40 years, and using “College Shopper” can help students weigh that cost and compares how much students can expect to earn after obtaining the degree.
“If you’re graduating in 4 years it’s one price but if you’re taking 6 or more years that’s a significantly higher price”, said Thompson. College Shopper also offers a complimentary full Personalized Report as well as more in-depth premium services on their website.
