NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – XXB1.5, COVID’s newest variant is spreading faster than any previous variant, creating a concern to many of how to protect oneself from getting it.

Dr. Bob Lorinser, Marquette County’s Medical Director, says people need to remember, we have been through so many variants and we are starting another year of COVID with the latest variant being worse than the last one.

Dr. Bob, “It’s the most rapidly growing variant that we have had, that’s why it is getting all the press.”

He says 60% more contagious than the previous omicron variant, and he doesn’t believe it to be as severe as the last variant.

Dr. Bob, “Previous vaccinations, previous infections, still protects the average person from severe disease pretty well.”

Dr. Bob says vaccinated individuals have an 90% reduction in infections and this is why a lot of people go undetected.

D.r Bob, “A lot of people are getting this are having a bad cold and don’t even know they have something.”

Dr. Bob says to use common sense and if you do not feel well or have a concern, see your medical doctor for proper treatment. He says if you are not feeling well, stay home and take a test.
