Marquette, Mich. (WZMQ) – Across the state, there are 17,000 police officers employed by 588 agencies. Today is the day to appreciate what they do.
January 9th is recognized nationally as law enforcement appreciation day. The day started in 2015 as a way to show support for law enforcement officers on the local, state, and federal levels.
The Michigan State Police (MSP) say that officers, especially those on the front line, put their lives in danger every day in order to ensure public safety.
Lt Mark Giuannunzio of the MSP says “The upper peninsula is really unique. It’s a great place to live and a great place to be a police officer, we see an outpouring of support from the community.”
Governor Gretchen Whitmer put out a statement on Twitter earlier today about law enforcement appreciation day; you can see it below.
