MARQUETTE, Mich (WZMQ) – Nearing the Thanksgiving Holiday, Feeding America held another Mobile Food Pantry at the Berry Events center on November 16th. Even through the cold and even some truck issues, they say this event is a fun reminder of the giving community in the U.P.
“We could always use more volunteers the more the merrier”, says volunteer Tyler LaPlaunt.
Last year, Feeding America handed over 24 million pounds of food to families. Today, with inflation increasing demands, they have doubled their requested truckload.
“Today we had a truck issue with a gate or the lift and we had to manually unload the truck. That’s the first time we had to do that one. So it helped out having extra volunteers and you know the more the merrier, it’s more about just having fun and giving back to the community, and getting out even in the cold sometimes can be fun”, continued Tyler LaPlaunt.
If you are looking to volunteer or help out in any way, the next mobile food pantry will be 9 am Thursday, December 1st, at the North Iron Church in Marquette County.
