NEWBERRY, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Florida man is facing felonious assault charges after police say a Newberry woman was stabbed multiple times.
Michigan State Police say it happened Saturday, Oct. 29 around 2 a.m. in the Village of Newberry.
Troopers were called for a report of an assault involving a woman who was stabbed several times.
Troopers found the 36-year-old woman at the scene with extensive injuries. She was taken to the hospital by EMS and is currently in stable condition.
An investigation revealed a 24-year-old Florida man, identified as the woman’s boyfriend, was the suspect. Before troopers got to the scene, the man left on foot.
Members of the MSP Canine Team and MSP Emergency Support Team assisted in locating the suspect, who was found hiding in a nearby residence and taken into custody.
The suspect is lodged in the Luce Cunty Jail.
His name is being withheld pending arraignment.
