One person is behind bars after a reported kidnapping in Delta County was revealed to be a hoax.
Michigan State Police responded to a call east of County Road 511 and US-2 for a woman tied up in a ditch who said she was kidnapped by a man in a small truck.
Interviews with witnesses revealed the kidnapping was staged by an out-of-state group hoping to bring awareness to their cause.
Group members provided officers with false information and used the opportunity to list several other people who are missing.
A second woman involved in the incident was arrested for kidnapping, aggravated assault and filing a false police report.
The woman remains in custody at the Delta County Jail.
Police said the incident tied up many resources meant for emergency situations.
They continued to say that social media reports created false information and caused public concern.
