The Copper Country’s only community-owned grocery store will soon have a new home.
Keweenaw Co-op has purchased the former home of Keweenaw Buick GMC in downtown Hancock.
The empty space will undergo a $7 million transformation to become a grocery store.
The Co-op brings in $4.8 million annually and plans to raise a million dollars through local investors.
It sold more than $300,000 worth of local products last year, and more than $20,000 was donated to local food banks.
2,000 members own the Co-op, which employs more than 40 people and offers cooking lessons and food education.
