“So my message is about that and fighting through that adversity. Failure is part of the process and anything that we do, and one of my favorite quotes is losers quit when they fail. Winners fail until they succeed. If you give up you're not going to get there. And if you don't give up and you work hard, you just might get there.”

Baumgartner book signing in Negaunee

NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The U.P.’s very own Olympic gold medalist Nick Baumgartner is touring the U.P. promoting his new book, “From Iron to Gold.”

We caught up to Nick in Negaunee where he spoke to a crowd of fans about the journey from his hometown of Iron River to Olympic gold. Baumgartner’s book is a story of humble beginnings in the U.P., his struggles on and off the slopes, his tireless dedication to his sport, and ultimately winning gold for his snowboard performance in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics at the age of 40.

His message is simple — never stop chasing your dreams.

“My message is about that and fighting through that adversity. Failure is part of the process and anything that we do, and one of my favorite quotes is, ‘Losers quit when they fail. Winners fail until they succeed.’ If you give up, you’re not going to get there. And if you don’t give up and you work hard, you just might get there,” said Baumgartner.

Baumgartner plans to go for the gold again during the 2026 Winter Games in Cortina, Italy.
