MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A dog was killed in a fire in Marquette early Tuesday morning.
Around 3:45 a.m., the Marquette Fire Department was dispatched to a two-story residence on Front Street for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, crews encountered visible smoke and fire conditions on the first floor. Mutual aid agencies were confirmed en route, a third alarm was requested, and utility companies were notified.
All occupants were confirmed to be out of the residence. However, crews were advised of missing pets believed to be inside. Crews established “Front Street Command” and began coordinating fireground operations.
Fire suppression efforts were effective, and crews brought the fire under control within about 10 minutes. A primary search of the entire structure was completed within 15 minutes, confirming that no occupants remained inside. Crews then transitioned to secondary searches, overhaul, and salvage operations.
While one dog and three cats were rescued from the fire, one dog did not survive. No human injuries were reported. The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
The Marquette Fire Department was assisted by the Marquette City Police Department, Marquette Township Fire Department, Chocolay Township Fire Department, UPHS EMS Unit 141, and the Marquette Board of Light and Power.
