In anticipation of the 29th Honor Flight, the Upper Peninsula Honor Flight hosted a banquet earlier on September 8.
The banquet honored a total of 73 veterans who served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. The event includes a catered meal, and a breifing of the flight for the veterans. The flight is scheduled for 6:30 a.m., and is set to return at 9 p.m. The starting time may vary due to delays.
The flight includes 9 memorials the group will stop and see. The experience is a way for veterans to heal from past experiences.
“I get notes after a flight, a week after, a month after, three months after,” said President of the Upper Peninsula Honor Flight Scott Knauf. “I’ll get notes in the mail from the veteran, from the guardian, from the spouse saying how it changed, and they had no clue that was going to happen.”
The flight on September 9 marks one of two trips the group takes per year.
