ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The City of Escanaba is getting a new public restroom. On Thursday, a group of residents got to work transforming it into what they call a “pretty potty.”
Construction recently wrapped up on the new facility, which is located at the Municipal Dock. Volunteers with Enhance Escanaba added a pop of color by planting flowers and shrubs around the building.
“We have lots of flowering trees, plus we have evergreens,” said Enhance Escanaba President Karen Moore. “The idea is to get something blooming in spring, summer, and fall.”
Enhance Escanaba’s mission is to beautify the city. Moore says the pretty potty is just one way the group has made Escanaba a bit more welcoming for residents and visitors alike.
“It’s a first impression of the city,” she said. “It shows that people care. It shows citizen participation. Plus, there’s actually proven statistics that beautification, especially downtown, helps with sales. It reflects on the community.”
Enhance Escanaba welcomes new volunteers and ideas. The group meets every other month, with meeting dates and times posted on the Enhance Escanaba Facebook page. To learn more about the group, visit enhanceescanaba.org.
