MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – On 08/20/2026, the Marquette Police Department took a report of a domestic violence
incident which had occurred several days prior at a well-established makeshift campsite on
Marquette Branch Prison property. The suspect was identified as 34-year-old Drummond
Smithson, who has resided in multiple states, with the most recent being in the Marquette, MI
area.
On 08/21/2026, the Marquette Police Department, with assistance from the Michigan State Police and Michigan Department of Corrections, located Smithson at his campsite and arrested him without incident.
Smithson was lodged at the Marquette County Jail on the following charges:
• Domestic Violence (93-day misdemeanor)
• Trespass on a State Correctional Facility (4 – year Felony )
