MARQUETTE COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Sheter (UPAWS) has announced new regulations for stray animal impounds in the Negaunee area.
According to a Facebook post by the shelter, as of Friday August 7, the City of Negaunee has chosen not to renew its stray animal impound contract with UPAWS — instead contracting with Ishpeming Township for these services.
UPAWS continues to explain that lost animals found within the City of Negaunee, City of Ishpeming, and Ishpeming Township are not to be brought to its Gwinn location.
If a resident in these areas finds a stray animal, they should contact the responsible agency within the municipality in which they are found.
