ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – In February, a Cornell woman was arrested for resisting, obstructing, and assaulting a police officer during an animal neglect investigation. Now, that woman and two other individuals have been charged with animal cruelty and neglect following a separate arrest over the weekend.
On February 4, Michigan State Police (MSP) Gladstone troopers executed a search warrant at a Cornell Township property. They found several dead animals, including cats, rabbits, pigs, and goats. More than two dozen live animals were found in malnourished and unhealthy conditions. Those animals were seized and removed from the property.
During the investigation, then-22-year-old Brianna Makosky began resisting and obstructing troopers, refusing to follow lawful orders. She then bit one of the troopers on the wrist. After being informed she was under arrest, she continued to fight and attempted to bite another trooper. She was safely taken into custody and lodged in the Delta County Jail.
The next day, Makosky was arraigned in the 94th District Court on three felony counts of resisting/obstructing/assaulting a police officer. That case has since been bound over to Circuit Court, where it remains ongoing.
Last weekend, now-23-year-old Makosky was arrested again. According to the 94th District Court, the arrest is related to a new case. Also arrested were 22-year-old Kruzz Makosky and 45-year-old Nichole Jarvey, both of Cornell.
The three were charged with one felony count of abandoning/cruelty of 25 or more animals, as well as eight misdemeanor counts of simple/gross neglect of animals – abandoning/cruelty to one animal involving death. They were arraigned on August 3 and given a $10,000 cash or surety bond. Their next court appearance is on August 20.
