ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – One of Escanaba’s loudest and most chaotic events returns to the U.P. State Fairgrounds this weekend.
Armageddon on Wheels is set to take over the grandstand on Saturday, August 1. Doors open at 3:00 p.m., and races begin at 5:00 p.m. The main event is a bus race on a figure-eight track, which leads to lots of exciting crashes and close calls. The five-hour show will also feature car and tough truck races, a monster truck throwdown, monster truck rides, and a brand new event.
“It’s a trailer race,” said Armageddon on Wheels organizer Jamie Spriks. “A car is racing behind a pickup truck hauling a trailer, and they have to climb onto the trailer.”
The buses attendees will see have all been sponsored and decorated by local organizations. It’s a community-wide effort that has been drawing large crowds year after year.
“It’s a lot of fun,” Spriks said. “It’s just mayhem. It’s wrecking. They don’t stop. They hit, they crash and roll over. It’s good for kids of all sizes. The little kids, the big kids have fun, and adults. If you like any kind of racing, this is pretty cool and wild.”
