GLADSTONE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Gladstone Farmers Market is helping kids stay safe this summer.
On Monday, July 13, more than 100 bike helmets will be available to children and teens at no cost. The helmets were donated by community members in memory of 13-year-old Colton Remsburg, who was raised in the area. Earlier this year, he died in an e-scooter accident while he wasn’t wearing a helmet.
Statistics show that the majority of children ride their bikes without a helmet. Wearing one can be the difference between life and death. That’s why the Gladstone Farmers Market wanted to support the cause.
“Our market is operated by the DDA, and we want to give everybody an opportunity to gather with their community and support one another,” said Gladstone Downtown Ambassador Samantha Gaudino. “Having a vendor like this is really in alignment with our market’s mission and with the vendors’ missions here. All of these vendors are small business owners. They all are human; they all care very deeply. We want to make that impact. We just want to get helmets in the hands of children whose lives could be saved.”
Parents are encouraged to bring their children to the market to ensure they receive a helmet that fits.
The Gladstone Farmers Market runs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. July 13’s market theme is Christmas in July.
