MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Marquette Symphony Orchestra is returning for the summer this week, and this week only.
The orchestra will hold its only summer performance this Thursday at the newly opened Peg Hirvonen Bandshell, and will be the first time any stringed instruments will perform in the structure.
The show has been titled ‘American Fantasy: A Salute to the Land We Love,’ honoring the 250th.
Conductor Octavio Más-Arocas says the show will stand as a teaser for its fall season beginning in October, but also as a celebration for the community of Marquette and the United States.
“We consider this concert our first of the season, but you could also consider it like a summer get-together concert to celebrate each other,” he said. “We’ll also have a little bit of patriotic music as well, since we just passed the fourth.”
The concert is free to the public and will begin at 7:30 p.m. In the case of rain, the concert would take place on Friday at the same time and place.
