ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Escanaba officials are getting closer to finding the City’s next manager.
In December of 2025, former manager Jim McNeil announced he would be stepping down in May of 2026. Since then, the City Council has been working to find the right person to replace him.
In April, the Council interviewed several candidates for the job. Then in May, the Council voted to hire a company to assist in the search. Now, Council members have 15 applicants to choose from.
To narrow down the search, Council members submitted their top three candidates to the City’s human resources director on Friday. They plan to conduct interviews on Monday, July 13.
Until a permanent manager is selected, City Controller Melissa Becotte is serving as interim manager.
