MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Marquette organization is marking one year of bringing music and arts to the community.
The Marquette Arts and Music Wellness Lions Club, or MAMWLC, celebrated its first anniversary this evening with a ribbon cutting at Blackrocks Brewery, followed by an evening of live music, local art, and fundraising.
Proceeds from the event are split between the club and Northwoods Air Lifeline, which provides free medical flights for up cancer-stricken children and residents who need to reach distant care.
MAMWLC Secretary Jim LaJoie says the club’s mission is simple. “Music and arts are healing for people,” says LaJoie. “We feel as if we have a responsibility to get out and provide that. And seeing the positive reactions is creates, seeing the smiles on peoples faces makes all the work that we put into it really worth it.”
MAMWLC is a subset of the Lions Club, now one year strong and looking ahead to year two.
