NEWBERRY, Mich. (WZMQ) – A middle school teacher has resigned from their position at Tahquamenon Area Schools following allegations of misconduct in the classroom.
According to a notice posted on the district’s Facebook page, Tahquamenon Area Schools became aware of the allegations on May 27. Administrators immediately began reviewing the matter in accordance with district policy, which included the involvement of the school resource officer and local law enforcement.
The teacher has since resigned and is no longer employed by Tahquamenon Area Schools. Superintendent Shawn Tebo says that because the situation is a personnel matter, no further details can be shared at this time.
“What we can share is that the safety and wellbeing of our students is always our top priority,” Tebo wrote in the notice. “When concerns are brought forward, we take them seriously, review them promptly, and involve appropriate authorities when needed. We are grateful to those who reported this concern and helped ensure it could be addressed through the proper channels.”
Tebo also stated that the district is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment. Parents of students who have questions or need support are asked to contact the school office.
