MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Marquette area public schools bond proposal that successfully passed in the recent May 5 election is scheduled for a recount. No taxpayer money will be spent on the upcoming recount. It will be paid for by a private individual. The recount will be paid for by Marquette resident Margaret Brum, who paid the fee of $2,000 to recount the votes in four precincts. Brum is basing her recount request on the early results she saw in a post on a local media Facebook page showing the measure had failed. That report was taken down within minutes, and a retraction was issued because the report in question was incorrect.
“I don’t know who reported what to whom. I know this appeared on the internet, and it would lead a normal person to think that the bond election had failed. That’s what I’m saying,” said Brumm.
The recount will take place this Thursday, May 28th, at 10:00 am in the Marquette Township Hall board room.
