REPUBLIC TWP., Mich. (WZMQ) – Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service issued an updated flood warning for Marquette County, in effect until further notice.
Moderate flooding is already happening along the Michigamme River near Republic, with more flooding expected. A flood watch also begins Thursday Night and runs through Saturday morning across parts of central and western Upper Michigan.
Officials warn that excessive runoff from rain and snowmelt could flood rivers and low-lying areas. Drivers are urged to remember: turn around, don’t drown. Most flood related drownings occur inside a vehicle.
The Marquette County Road Commission is reporting two road closures due to flooding.
In Forsyth Twp. County Road 438 remains closed, as does County Road LG in Republic Twp.
