MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – In a collaboration between Innovate Marquette and SISU: The Innovation Institute at NMU, Peak26 began Thursday morning at the Northern Center, giving wildcats and their surrounding community a space to share ideas of personal development.
“Our job is to connect people at different points or ‘peaks’ they might be climbing in their journey of entrepreneurship, innovation, and ideation of new things they might want to accomplish,” explained SISU Director, Bill Digneit.
Day one began with highlights on local women in business, shifting into breakout sessions focused on startups, finance, and communication. Along with Peak26, this year’s conference has been specially organized next to multiple other events for more ease of access.
“We have decided to co-locate several Northern Michigan University conferences this year, so students don’t have to have several dates on their calendars,” said Innovate Marquette Outreach and Engagement Manager, Aubry Healy.
Across the Northern Center, students and attendees had the chance to swing through the United Conference, Sustainability Summit, and Peak26, while also getting the chance to visit with the 36 booths set up for this year’s WellBeing Fair through the University.
“We have a lot of great resources on campus, but we also have so many great resources in the community, so if we can connect people to what they need and what they’re interested in, that’s the goal here today,” said NMU WellBeing Promotions Coordinator, Jessica Corkin. “It’s kind of a one-stop-shop here, we’re just happy to all be in one place.”
The second day of Peak26 will take place at the Innovation Hall in NMU’s Jacobetti Complex. More details can be found here.
