DELTA COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Sunday, Delta County responders brought two people to safety in an ice rescue.
At 10:30 a.m., Delta County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Ice Rescue personnel were dispatched to two snowmobilers who had fallen through the ice on Big Bay de Noc. The incident happened near Round Island, which is approximately three miles offshore and even further from the nearest launch site.
Rescuers made their way to the snowmobilers with the Sheriff’s Office airboat and Masonville Township’s airboat. Once on scene, rescuers determined that while both snowmobiles had fallen through the ice, only one of the riders had gone into the water. The individual got out of the water on his own and was stranded on the ice. The other individual was able to get to the nearby island.
Both snowmobilers were treated and released by medical personnel at the scene. Deputies were assisted by Ensign Township, Masonville Township, Delta County Search and Rescue, Rampart EMS, and the Michigan DNR.
