ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – In less than a month, a Delta County man will stand trial for the murder of a 22-year-old pregnant woman.
Tavaris Lee Jackson was arrested in July of 2023, after the body of Harley Corwin was found with two bullet wounds to the head in the woods of Ford River Township. Jackson faces charges of open murder, felony possession of a firearm at the time of the murder, and conduct intentionally causing the death of a fetus.
On Thursday, the prosecution requested that additional evidence from a former girlfriend of Jackson’s be admitted in the trial. In interviews with police, the woman detailed several instances of domestic violence and other issues involving Jackson.
Judge John Economopoulos determined that while not everything in the woman’s interviews is relevant to the case, statements about Jackson punching, hitting, pushing, and choking her are relevant. Economopoulos stated that admitting such evidence is in the interest of justice, as those incidents are relevant to Jackson’s “propensity for violence” toward women.
